The Idea Behind the Developer Walk

Regular attendees of barcamps and conferences of all kinds know the little secret of hallway conversations, which often contain more information than any session itself. This post introduces the idea of the Developer Walk and aims to spark your interest in helping make it happen.

When I attended a conference for the first time in 2011, I quickly realized that the truly informative conversations took place outside the conference room. Back then, it was in a small pub. Over a cold drink and good food, people got to know one another better and talked about exciting topics from the world of IT.

Today, for many of my colleagues and for me, this has become a popular way to meet and exchange ideas. We also happily talk about family, life in general, or wild ideas of all kinds. More than one partnership has come out of those evenings.

The idea

During one of these get-togethers, the idea of the Developer Walk was born. The idea is very simple: people meet, walk, discuss, and eventually arrive together at a place for food and drinks. During the hike, interest-driven groups on all sorts of topics will naturally form. There is always something to discuss, present, or exchange.

What now?

This blog post is meant to introduce the idea, spark interest, and ask for support in bringing it to life. If that speaks to you, take a look at the still rather empty Trello board and fill it with your ideas.
